Safety Saturday - Nissan Rear Automaic Braking

In our last installment of Safety Saturday, we will take a deep dive into Rear Automatic Braking. In the previous post, we discussed Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and now we are going to be building on that with this next feature. As we talked about previously, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will send a tone and light alert when it senses a vehicle approaching from either side while you are backing up. Rear Automatic Braking is going to take that one step further. This safety feature "helps the driver detect large stationary objects when backing up" and "applies the brakes to help avoid or mitigate damage" when needed. As you are backing up, the sensors located in the rear bumper will be watching for objects behind you. As you approach a stationary object the vehicle will send out tones that will increase in speed the closer you get to the object. If the system detects that you are not going to stop before you hit the object, it will apply the brakes for you. For example, say that you were like my husband who always wants to back into his parking space. If he was trying to park in a parking garage with a parking space that backed up to a wall, the sensors would beep at him at increasing speeds the closer he got to the wall. If he was approaching the wall too fast, the vehicle would apply the brakes to keep him from bumping into the wall. Check out the video below for an example of how Rear Automatic Braking will help make you a safer driver. This feature, like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, will be a benefit to all drivers. Everyone who puts their vehicle in reverse at any point in their driving will use this feature to be able to judge the distance between the back of their car and another object.

Safety Saturday - Nissan Lane Departure Warning

Welcome to the third installment of Safety Saturday! Today we will be discussing another one of our Safety Shield 360 features, Lane Departure Warning. Lane Departure Warning provides a driver with both safety and convenience. It is "designed to help alert drivers to unintended movement of the vehicle out of its travel lane." ?To put this into a real-world perspective, have you ever been driving and taken your eyes off of the road to turn your radio station? In just those few seconds, your vehicle may start to drift into the other lane or on the shoulder. With Lane Departure Warning, the system will alert you with a chime or a vibration of the steering wheel to let you know that you are moving out of your traveling lane. This vibration or chime is intended to get your attention fast so you can put your vehicle back into your traveling path. This feature is just a warning and will not take over to keep your vehicle in the lane. The system that operates this feature is more complicated than the one for High Beam Assist. It uses a combination of a "small wide-angle camera, advanced image processing, speed sensor, and control unit" to detect a lane departure.? This feature only works if the lines for the traffic lane can be clearly seen and the vehicle is traveling more than 37 miles per hour. You may also be thinking to yourself that this feature is going to eventually get annoying by going off every time you enter a turn lane. To overcome this, Lane Departure Warning will not operate if the turn signal is activated. So, as long as you use your turn signal to move from lane to lane you will not have to deal with the chime or vibrating steering wheel. Purchasing a new 2023 Nissan here at your local Dothan Nissan dealership, equipped with this feature, will make you a more confident driver. One of the goals that Nissan has set out to accomplish is to make all drivers confident on the road, and Lane Departure Warning is just one more step in completing that mission.

Safety Saturday's - Nissan High Beam Assist

Hello everyone! Thank you for joining us again for another Safety Saturday. Today we will be diving into High Beam Assist. This feature, in my opinion, is one of the coolest in the Safety Shield 360®. The first time my husband drove my 2022 Nissan Sentra equipped with this feature he was amazed! So, let's get into what makes this feature so great. What Is It? According to Nissan, this feature "automatically turns on the high beam headlights when you need them, and switches to low beam when it detects a vehicle ahead". For example, say you are driving on one of the back-country roads that we have here in South Alabama. Most of those roads, if not all, don't have street lights which makes it very hard to see everything without your high beams. With High Beam Assist, the car will recognize that the high beams are needed and automatically turn them on for you. If you happen to meet another driver also traveling that same road, the vehicle will sense their headlights and automatically turn your high beams off. Once you pass that vehicle, the high beams will turn right back on. How Does It Work? The way this technology works is quite simple. It "uses a front-facing ambient image sensor located near the rearview mirror" to detect light and dark. When the sensor sees that it is very dark outside, it will turn those high beams on, and when it senses the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, it will turn the high beams off. Who knew that such a small sensor could power such a convenient feature? Why Does It Benefit You? I know that many of you are saying to yourself, why would I even need this feature? I can turn my high beams off and on by hand. Think about this. How many times have you had your high beams on and forgot to turn them off when you saw an oncoming vehicle? I know that I certainly have and other people have done it to me as well. It would be nice to know that you have the High Beam Assist to be there to always remember to turn those high beams off to not blind the other driver coming your way. Check out this video below for a live-action look at how High Beam Assist works:

National Child Passenger Safety Month

Thursday Tips: National Child Passenger Safety Month

Happy Thursday all! For your Thursday Tip today, we are taking a look at safety. September is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month, and Nissan has 10 child passenger safety tips for drivers transporting their kids. As reported by Nissan earlier in the month, "Nissan safety engineers spend thousands of hours evaluating child safety seats by installing them in the rear seats of current Nissan and INFINITI vehicles. The result is the Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a child restraint system that best fits their vehicle. Not all car seats fit in all vehicles, and choosing the appropriate child restraint system can be confusing. Nissan's Snug Kids program exists to help make that process easier. Launched in 2002, Snug Kids is an industry-first car seat installation program explicitly geared toward child passenger safety. Nissan Snug Kids® Visit http://www.nissanusa.com/snugkids for more information about the Snug Kids program and to access fit guides and valuable tips on the proper fit of a child restraint system. "Passenger safety is at the core of everything we do at Nissan. Our Snug Kids® team of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians performs more than 6,400 car seat checks in our vehicles each year to help ensure a proper fit," said Brandon Sanders, Nissan product safety engineer. "I'm often asked which car seat is the best, and my response is the one you can install and use correctly every time," Sanders says. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages one to 13. Many of these deaths could be prevented with the proper use of child restraint systems or child safety seats. Nissan Product Safety Engineer Brandon Sanders reminds all parents and caregivers to read their child restraint system's owner's manual to ensure proper installation and use of of car seats and boosters."

Tech Tuesday: Nissan Lane Departure Warning

Happy Tech Tuesday everyone! Today we are taking a look at Nissan's Lane Departure Warning. This feature is a part of Nissan Safety Shield 360, and is a way to make sure that drivers operate safely without being overly complicated. So how does it work?
